NSOU Admission 2026: Step-by-Step Application Process
NSOU admissions for the Academic Year 2026-2027 for Four Year Undergraduate (FYUG) and Post Graduate (PG) & BLIS programmes have concluded their application phases. The mandatory DEB ID verification for these programmes is due by 05 October 2026. Provisional Enrollment Certificates will be available for printing from 09 October 2026. Ph.D. admissions for the Academic Year 2024-2025 (Session January 2025) have also concluded.

Four Year Undergraduate (FYUG) Admission 2026-2027
The online application system for Four Year Undergraduate (FYUG) programmes for the Academic Year 2026-2027 was available from 24 July 2026 (10:00 A.M.) to 25 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.). Document uploading was open until 26 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.), and fee payment (online and offline) concluded on 29 September 2026 (04:00 P.M.).
As per UGC-DEB directives, obtaining a DEB ID is mandatory for pursuing programmes under Open and Distance Learning mode. Applicants must provide and verify their DEB ID through the admission portal. Failure to do so will result in the rejection of the application.

- After payment of fees, provide your DEB ID on the NSOU admission portal.

Postgraduate (PG) and BLIS Admission 2026-2027 (Session July 2026)
The online application system for PG and BLIS programmes for the Academic Year 2026-2027 (Session July 2026) has concluded. For M.Sc. in Environmental Science (PGES), M.Sc. in Geography (PGGR), and M.Sc. in Zoology (PGZO), applications were accepted until 10 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.), with document uploading until 11 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.) and fee payment until 14 September 2026 (04:00 P.M.). For all other PG and BLIS programmes, applications were accepted until 25 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.), with document uploading until 26 September 2026 (06:00 P.M.) and fee payment until 29 September 2026 (04:00 P.M.).

Counselling for M.Sc. in Environmental Science (PGES), Geography (PGGR) and Zoology (PGZO) for July 2026 Session
Admission to M.Sc. in Environmental Science (PGES), M.Sc. in Geography (PGGR), and M.Sc. in Zoology (PGZO) for the July 2026 session is strictly based on merit, following the Government of West Bengal and University reservation policy through counselling and seat allotment. Provisional merit lists for these programmes for the July 2026 session were published on 23 September 2026. General instructions for counselling were also released on the same date.
A mop-up round of counselling for these programmes was conducted on 28 September 2026 and 30 September 2026 for candidates from the merit lists who missed their first chance. Allotment of seats is made in order of merit and subject to the availability of seats in the respective Learner Support Centre for the course and category. Attending counselling does not guarantee admission; it depends on merit rank, document verification, DEB ID verification, and seat availability.
Candidates must appear in person at the counselling venue for seat allotment. Missing a scheduled slot means the candidate will not be accommodated in any subsequent slot. Counselling continues until all seats for a particular category are filled.
- All original Admit Card, Mark sheets, Certificates, Proof for Date of Birth, Caste Certificate (for other than General Category), PWD Certificate and Identity Card (for PH Candidates), EWSs certificate (if applicable).
- Photocopies of all testimonials.
- Two recent passport size colour photographs.
- Print out of the Online Application Form.
- ABC ID: As per UGC directives, ABC ID is mandatory. Candidates are advised to get their ABC ID from the Academic Bank of Credits portal.
- DEB ID: As per UGC-DEB directives, getting a DEB ID is mandatory. Candidates must get their DEB ID from the UGC-DEB portal (deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDEBId) to participate in counselling. Without successful verification of DEB ID, candidature will be cancelled.

Ph.D. Admission 2024-2025 (Session January 2025)
The online application system for Ph.D. programmes for the Academic Year 2024-2025 (Session January 2025) was available from 12 September 2025 (10:00 A.M.) to 08 October 2025 (04:00 P.M.). Online fee payment was also open during the same period. Document verification for this session took place on 04 November 2025 (11:00 A.M. to 02:00 P.M.) at the University HQ.
NSOU has not published admission notification for Ph.D. programmes for Academic Year 2026-2027 as of 02 October 2026.
Mandatory DEB ID for ODL Programmes
As per directives from UGC-DEB, obtaining a DEB ID is mandatory for all applicants pursuing programmes under the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode at NSOU. Applicants are required to create their DEB ID from the UGC-DEB portal (deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDEBId).
After successful fee payment, applicants must provide and verify their DEB ID through the respective admission portal. The University will reject any application if the DEB ID is not provided and verified by the deadline of 05 October 2026 (04:00 P.M.).
- Visit the UGC-DEB portal (deb.ugc.ac.in/StudentDEBId) to create your DEB ID.
- After paying your admission fees, log in to the NSOU admission portal.
- Provide your DEB ID and proceed with the verification process on the portal. For FYUG, use the FYUG admission portal and for PG/BLIS, use the PG and BLIS admission portal.

Reservation Policy
Reservation of seats for SC/ST/PH/OBC/EWS categories is applicable only to candidates from West Bengal. SC/ST/PH/OBC candidates from outside West Bengal will be considered under the General Category.
Reserve Category applicants can choose to be considered either in the Combined General Merit List or in their respective reserved category merit list. If a reserved category candidate opts for consideration under the Combined General Merit List, their right for the Reserved Category Merit List will be automatically ceased.
The University follows The Kolkata Gazette Notification vide No. 944-BCW/MR-23/2026 dated 18.05.2026 and No. 945-BCW/MR-23/2026 dated 18.05.2026 for the reservation of OBCs. Candidates belonging to EWSs who are not covered under SC, ST, and OBC reservation schemes must carry the original copy of their EWS certificate to avail benefits.
Refund Policy
The University will refund fees only for specific reasons: if an applicant pays the requisite fees twice for the same application ID, or if one applicant inadvertently applies for two subjects. If an applicant applies for a programme and submits fees but later requests a refund, the deposited amount cannot be refunded.
Applicants eligible for a refund must visit the University HQ with a written application and supporting documents within one month from the admission closing date.
